| Displaced dogs still seek families
Old-timer, a small blond Chihuahua wearing a red sweater, was one of only 15 dogs still looking for a home Wednesday afternoon. The dogs, brought here from Southern California were rescued from overcrowded shelters after fires swept through the region, destroying many of their homes. .
Shots Fired During Chase After Niles Shop Robbed
(SBT24/7News) Police are seeking two men early Thursday morning after a robbery in Niles that led to a chase across state lines. Michigan State Police said the Lenny Mini Mart, a Marathon station on U.S. 12 near M-60 was robbed about 10:45 p.m. When the suspects fled, a witness at the store followed them into St. Joseph County as far as the area of Brick Road and Laurel Creek Drive. But then, St. Joseph County officials said, the suspects fired shots at the witness and sped off. Officers remained on the scene at 1:30 a.m. as the investigation continued. MSP said the clerk was pistol-whipped repeatedly and treated and released at Lakeland Hospital for minor injuries. An undisclosed amount of money was taken during the armed robbery.
At-Large Suspect May Be Behind Three West-Side Robberies
A robbery suspect remains at large after robbing a west-side pharmacy Saturday, according to the Franklin County Sheriff's Office. The suspect is white or Hispanic, 5’5" to 5’8", approximately 175 to 185 pounds and in his late 30s to 40s. He dresses in a green coat, with the hood up, and blue jeans. The suspect covers his face with a bandana or scarf. The suspect entered the CVS Pharmacy at 4801 W. Broad St. at 9 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, and robbed two store employees at gunpoint. Investigators believe the same suspect may have robbed LA Tan, a tanning salon, at 51 S. Murray Hill on Friday, Nov. 23, and Sunday, Nov. 17. Teenagers cook for looks
MOST WA teenagers still think getting a suntan makes them more attractive. With temperatures soaring, Perth's beaches are already packed with people prepared to cook for looks. A Cancer Council survey into adolescent sun behaviour found 55 per cent of teenagers sunbaked to darken their skin. While adolescents knew using sunscreen was important, only 64 per cent of girls and 37 per cent of boys regularly used it. SunSmart manager Kerry O'Hare said that despite an understanding of the risks involved, many teenagers still put themselves at a huge risk of developing melanomas. Melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, is the most common cancer in people aged 12 to 24 in WA. Scarborough Beach tanner Stine Oby, 22, said girls felt pressured from an early age to think that the browner their skin was, the more attractive they were.
