A CYCLIST stopped traffic when he stumbled into the road after being knifed in the chest. The 36-year-old was on Ashton Road in Denton, at the junction with Frederick Street, at 4.30pm last Wednesday when he was approached by his attacker and punched, knocking him off his mountain bike. He stumbled into the middle of the road, causing traffic to stop, but the knifeman followed and continued to beat him even as he lay on the floor. The offender, described as a black man, searched him for valuables before making off towards Audenshaw. The victim then realised he had been stabbed and was taken to Tameside Hospital. Police believe there were a number of witnesses to the incident, outside Oasis Tanning Centre on 31 October, and are appealing for them to come forward.
Man looks familiar -- then robs pizza parlor
WOOD VILLAGE -- A man walked into a Papa Murphy's pizza parlor Monday, ready to rob. Then another man walked in, so the robber sat down on a bench and waited. The second man ordered his pizza, leaned in toward the woman working there, and said: "I think I saw that guy on the news last night for robbing a store." Then the second man left. As if on cue, the first man got up and robbed the store. Monday's incident marked the fourth similar robbery in the east county area in the past week. Each robbery targeted women employees in their 20s; the past three each occurred two days after the previous robbery. Police think -- but aren't sure -- that it is the same man. If it is, they fear he is becoming more brazen. Detectives from Gresham, Troutdale, Fairview and the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office are investigating the robberies at three pizza parlors and a tanning salon.
Virginia real estate investor buys Bella Madera Apartments
An affiliate of Harbor Group International LLC has purchased the 328-unit Bella Madera Apartments from Westwood Residential. Will Balthrope of the Balthrope Group of Marcus & Millichap brokered the transaction. The purchase price was not disclosed. However, Harbor Group International plans to invest $377,000 in the San Antonio property for minor interior and exterior upgrades. Bella Madera is a Class A apartment community completed in mid-2006. The property has one- and two-bedroom floorplans with an average unit size of 752 square feet. The property has a clubhouse, swimming pool, resident business center, conference room, 24-hour fitness center, tanning studio and massage therapy salon. Bella Madera is 96 percent occupied.
