Rugby Town look for cup boost

SIX games without a victory, Rugby Town entertain Halesowen Town at Butlin Road tonight looking to bounce back from a 4-1 tanning by the same opposition at the weekend and a place in the last 16 of the Errea Cup.

Billy Jeffrey's boys found The Yeltz too much of a handful at The Grove on Saturday but the shrewd Town chief expects a far closer tussle tonight where he will be looking for the same commitment and determination from his men as in the opening hour of the weekend's defeat.

Rugby fans felt the harsh dismissal of Craig Herbert just after the interval when the game was goalless was a telling factor in the reversal as Halesowen went on to win convincingly at the expense of the ten-men. ..SUPL:

Blindness drug creates longer eyelashes and a medical panic

A drug designed to tackle debilitating eye diseases has been an unlikely hit with women who want longer eyelashes. Drugs authorities in Britain have expressed concerns about the increasing use of Lumigan as a cosmetic treatment after it was found to stimulate eyelash growth.

The treatment, which is available over the counter in the United States and on prescription in Britain, was developed to treat glaucoma, a condition that can lead to blindness.

During testing it emerged that one of the main side-effects of Lumigan is that it stimulates eyelash growth.

Lumigan can be bought in America for about $150 (£70) a tube in doctors’ surgeries and in health spas, and is applied using a small brush similar to a mascara brush. It is made by Allergan, the same Californian drugs group that produces Botox, the treatment used to smooth out wrinkles.

A magnificent coming together

When an expo gathers art, artist and art lovers in numbers large enough to set records, it becomes more than mere commerce.

By OOI KOK CHUEN

ITS a work of art in itself: the beauty of a meeting of more than 200 artists and 10 art galleries from 18 countries under one roof in Kuala Lumpur from Nov 3 to 7.

The 1st International Art Expo Malaysia, only the second of its kind in South-east Asia after Singapore, surpassed expectations in terms of quality and sales of artworks, participation (105 booths) and attendance (more than 4,500 visitors).

The range of works in paintings, batik art, prints, sculptures, ceramics, installations and photography was staggering, reflecting national impulses as well as distinct individual expressions.

It was an extension of art impresario Vincent Sim Tiak Choos dream and daring, to bring together not only artistic impressions from all over the world but also the creators, and to create a community that was about more than just the commerce.

Fire Destroys Burkburnett Businesses

"My mother keeps saying the Lord won't put a burden on you can't carry and you have to just believe that," said Harold Hawkins. A Burkburnett businessman relying on his faith after a fire destroys his family's way of life.

Five businesses in all are destroyed after flames gutted an entire building just before five o'clock this morning. Four of the businesses were owned and run by the Hawkins family. The other was leased out to a friend who ran a convenience store where it is believed the fire started. It took several departments about an hour just to get a handle on this blaze that went up at the intersection of Preston and Kramer. So Iowa Park, Cameron Gardens, Frieburg Cooper and Wichita Falls Fire Department were all called in. So was building owner Harold Hawkins. "Wanted to know if I was on my way up with a key it was burning.
