| 29-11-2007: Growth capacity, robust investment to mitigate higher inflation
KUALA LUMPUR: The country's capacity for growth and high rates of investment will enable the country to mitigate higher inflation rates caused by any oil price hike, Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) governor Tan Sri Zeti Akhtar Aziz said. She said the country was still operating below the 6.5% potential growth rate, besides having robust investment flows, and these factors could counter higher inflation rates. “We see a significant capacity expansion due to these factors. Therefore, while the price hike would exert pressure on prices, we have other factors that will contain this price increase," she said at the announcement of the country's third quarter gross domestic product growth here yesterday. “We have factors such as capacity expansion, increase in productivity, increase in competition and if there is an increase in supply of food, these are factors that will offset the effects of oil price hike on other prices," she added.
Offended by photo-op at Beverly Hills marker
Bad taste strikes again, in regards to the photograph on Oct. 29 of State Sen. Katie Stine grinning and applauding the new historic marker explaining the terrible tragedy of the Beverly Hills Supper Club fire. Why doesn't Sen. Stine do a little victory dance over this new historic marker which "puts Southgate on the map?" This lady should be ashamed of herself! Claire Outten Covington .

Hiking: Scenery — even slugs — make Big Basin Redwoods enticing
The ubiquitous banana slug may be Big Basin Redwoods State Park's most underappreciated denizen. But, inch for inch, they may have the park's celebrated redwood trees beat. At least that's my impression after a recent trip with five other Central Coast women to hike the park's Skyline to the Sea Trail to Waddell Beach. We'd hardly started down the trail when I spotted the first one, a slimy, banana-yellow guy about 6 inches long oozing along the mossy edge of the trail. How did I know it was a guy? Easy. They're all guys. They're all girls too, strictly speaking, since banana slugs, like all slugs, are hermaphrodites — endowed with both male and female sex organs. Maybe these seemingly self-sufficient creatures had a lesson to impart? Our annual ladies' trips, verboten for our male hiking counterparts, certainly have given us more than the obvious fresh air, gorgeous scenery and relaxation.
Try lighting a candle in honor of fiancee's mom
Dear Abby: My fiancee, "Cassie," and I are being married in the spring, and as you can imagine, the planning is hectic. My question is, how can I honor the memory of Cassie's mother? She passed away from cancer seven years ago. I never got to meet her, but it is obvious that she is deeply missed. Is there an acceptable way to honor her during the ceremony and reception that wouldn't be in poor taste? Thanks in advance for your insight. Groom-To-Be, Lexington, Ky. Dear Groom-To-Be: This is a question that should be discussed in advance with the clergyperson who will officiate at the ceremony. .
