Chong Wei Through, Hafiz Bites The Dust

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 2 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's top men's singles shuttler Lee Chong Wei cruised into the last eight while Hafiz Hashim failed to advance after the second round matches of the French Open in Paris yesterday. According to the Badminton World Federation (BWF) website, world No. 2 Chong Wei took 34 minutes to send world No. 11 Simon Santoso of Indonesia packing 21-12, 21-16. After winning the Indonesian Open and Japan Open, Chong Wei, the tournament's second seed, will now face Chan Yan Kit of Hong Kong, who earlier had beaten Hafiz 24-22, 21-19 also in 34 minutes. Another Malaysian men's singles Sairul Amar Ayob also crashed out of the tournament losing 10-21, 11-21 to Thai ace Boonsak Ponsana. In the women's singles, top Malaysian women's singles Wong Mew Choo defeated Anna Rice of Canada to book a place in the last eight.


Plateau players net all-league recognition

Plateau athletes were well represented when coaches handed out all-South Puget Sound League 3A honors.FootballNamed to the all-SPSL 3A first team from Bonney Lake High School were offensive lineman Johnathan Griffith, defensive lineman Zak Nash and defensive back Casey Adams. Panthers making the second team were running back Citron Jackson and defensive back Cash Henningsen; also making the second squad were Griffith as a defensive lineman and Nash as a receiver.Honorable mention honors went to offensive lineman Bobby Nix, quarterback Kyle Yanusevich and Adams, a wide receiver.From Enumclaw, Evan Slack was a second team offensive lineman.Earning honorable mention were offensive lineman Ray Wineman, quarterback Taylor Score and defensive lineman Justin Belcourt; two Hornets gained honorable mention on both sides of the ball: Connor Larned at tight end and linebacker and Joey Pierotti at wide receiver and defensive back.
